Rowing
Congratulations! You are entering a new phase of your life - that of a rower. This sport is unlike any other. You will push yourself harder than you thought possible. You will shatter preconceived, but false, limits along the way. You will grow as an athlete and a person. And you will do it in the company of goal-oriented, driven, young adults like yourself. For those new to the sport, US Rowing offers 11 Insights into the Sport of Rowing to get you started.
During the month of May, SHHS Raider Crew holds an information session for potential rowers. Families receive a one-page information sheet. The SHHS Crew orientation packet should be read by all new families, as well as the team by-laws. In June, we hold a tour of the boathouse in the Flats on the Cuyahoga River.
If you are interested in rowing during the 2008-09 season, send your name, grade as of August 2008, email, and phone number to head coach Sharon Romilly.
Athletes interested in rowing in the fall will give themselves an edge by long, slow, distance running and weight-lifting with the Bigger Faster Stronger program over the summer. Information on BFS is available from the high school athletic department. You may also wish to particpate in the Summer Juniors Rowing program.
